Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi

Another dystopian future world story for me. I loved this one! It's about a boy who lives on this little island dedicated to breaking down ship wrecks for their copper wiring and other recyclable materials to sell because the world has gone to shit and a lot of the cities are now under water. His future (and present) is pretty bleak and the only way any of his community gets out of poverty is through luck and smarts. It just so happens that after a storm Nailer and one of his crew Pima discovers a ship wrecked after a storm. Inside they discover riches that with a little smarts they can use to buy themselves out of their work but they also find a barely living rich girl who claims she is worth more to them alive.

I'd be really happy if this one had turned out to be one in a series but it seems like it may just be a stand alone. I really enjoyed it and would have liked to see more of this world.
